Hi Everybody,
Well I made it to London. My plane was 3 hours late
but
I was still able to arrive by 1:30 pm, which wasn't too bad.
My first order of business was to find a place to stay. I meant
to reserve space weeks ago, but with finals, graduation, etc.
I never did it.
The first place I went to was totally booked up. I next
went
to a youth hostel in the Chelsea/Kennsington area of London.
They were booked also. They had a sign that gave the vacancy
rates at all the city hostels. Every single one had zero vacancies.
I kept asking questions and finally they told me to come back
around six and maybe something would open. I did, and there
was space.
I slept in a strange room. There were about 14 of us gals
in the room. My bunk was above the ground, sort of where a
middle bunk would be except it was above a bank of lockers.
There
was another bed
above me horizontally at the end of
my feet. In order for her to get down
she has to step in my bed. Very odd.
I have been getting used to the accents
and driving and everything British. I found this
place (Cyberia)
without too much difficulty.
Last night I took the tube to the Tower Bridge. It was
magnificent! I walked along the side of the River Thames
and got a few good pictures.
Today I went to the British Museum. I could not believe
that the admission was free and they allowed flash
photography! I saw the Rosetta Stone and many, many
other things I have been dreaming about since I was 11
years old.
Tonight I may go on the Jack the Ripper walking tour. I
have to make sure I can get another bed for the night before
I do anything else.
Tomorrow I leave for Paris. I'm hoping to stay for at least
four days.
Well there has been a lot more, but this all I have
time to
tell you about.
Say hello to anyone who may know me,
Cheers,
Marisa
