Ten years after first hearing about the Green Tortoise, I'm finally getting myself on the bus. Some people hear about the bus through flyers posted on telephone poles, others through the budget traveler grapevine - me, I heard about it through the most unlikely of places: Seventeen Magazine. In an article about "alternative" ways to spend your summer vacation I read about the communal atmosphere, the amazing sights, the funky buses, and I knew I had to go. The problem was I was only 16, and talking my parents into letting me go was no less than a major hurdle. So I buried thoughts of the Green Tortoise way back into my subconscious, forgetting about it while I was exploring Europe, discovering Alaska and taking road trips up and down the west coast. But when I was mulling over where to go for my next vacation, it all came back to me and I realized I would soon be too old to fully enjoy the magic of the Green Tortoise.

If possible, I will send a couple travelogues along the way. However, if it comes down to enjoying a little bit more of nature, or sitting in front of a computer, I'm going to choose nature. In preparation for that I've taken the tentative itinerary from the Green Tortoise website   and added some links to the places I'll be going so you can follow along.
