Hi everybody,
So much has happened I hardly know where to begin.
I had an unforgettable time in Paris. I really did not want
to leave but I was anxious to get onto the next place. I spent
one part of the next to last day with that one
guy who had
graduated
with me, I think I mentioned him in the last letter.
We didn't hit it off particularly well, although I had a pretty
good time with him.
Later in the day I met up with a girl from Sonoma
who
was staying in my room. We clicked immediately and
decided to make a night of it. We wandered around Paris
and had dinner with at an Italian restaurant. Later we went
to a pub and drank Guinness beer. The pub we went to
featured the "best American and French bands." When we
walked in there was a singer singing Red Hot Chili Pepper
songs. "Unda da brige donton is where I drew sum blud..."
The younger readers of this letter will see the humor in this...
then the singer started doing The Artist Formerly Known as
Prince movements with his hands. I can't quite explain,
but it wasn't obscene or anything, just hard to keep from
laughing. The bartender was English and he gave us passes
for a free beer the next time we came in.
The next night I took an overnight train
to Amsterdam.
It was the first time I had used my Eurail pass so I tried to
get directions on how to use it. I was told to reserve a
couchette, which I believe is like a sleeping car. When I got
to the platform I tried to find the place I was supposed to
be in. It was maddening. I finally got to a place I thought
was right only to find a bunch of other people in my space.
I started asking them questions and they couldn't tell me
anything. After a few minutes of me becoming close to the
arguing stage a girl
from the next space
asked me if I needed help. She was nice and asked
me to join her in her area. I did. She is Irish and
traveling for a month by herself also. She had met
up with an Australian guy the day before and they were traveling
together. We got along great and we have decided to
spend the rest of our trip together. The guy leaves for Cairo
tomorrow, he is on an 8 month trip around the world. Although all
three of us speak English we can barely understand each
other at times.
