Jessie M. Wells
Jessie Mae Moore Wells, 94, died March 27, 2003, at Baptist Health Medical Center-Arkadelphia. She was born Aug. 13, 1908, near Lookout Mountain, Ala., daughter of Robert A. and Belle Gardner Moore. She was a homemaker and co-owner of Wells Grocery in the Center Point community. She was the widow of Herbert D. Wells and a charter member of Center Point Baptist Church.
Survivors include: One daughter, Jo McBride and her husband, Bob, of Hot Springs; one son, Bill Wells and his wife, Doris, of Arkadelphia; three grandchildren, Kathy McBride of Hot Springs, Herb McBride of Oklahoma City and Mark Wells of Friendship; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral was Saturday at Horne Funeral Home chapel in Gurdon with Rev. Charles Hargett officiating. Burial was in South Fork Cemetery.
Leona Mae Wells, 75, of Gurdon, died Wednesday, September 4, 2002.
Mrs. Wells was a homemaker and member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Ralph and wife, Brenda Thomas of Gurdon, and Ricky and wife, Susan of Sapulpa, Okla.; one brother, Floyd Brown of Keota, Iowa; sister, Lula ‘Irene' Hullman of Hastings, Neb.; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by brother, Lester ‘Stub' Brown, and a great-grandson, Charles Kassaw.
Graveside services were held Saturday, September 7, in South Fork Cemetery by Horne Funeral Home, Gurdon.
Ruth Laurine Campbell
Ruth Laurine Campbell, 77, of Gurdon died Friday, May 18, 2001.
Mrs. Campbell was a homemaker and a Baptist.
She is survived by her husband, William ‘Son' Campbell; two daughters, Doris Mills and Kathy Hill, all of Gurdon; three brothers, Ted Wells, Allen Wells and Pryce Wells, all of Glendale, Ore.; one sister, Tollie Smithpeters of Porterville, Calif.; four grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral services were Sunday, May 20, at Horne Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Southfork Cemetery under the direction of Horne Funeral Home of Gurdon.
Mildred Elois Wells-Taylor
Mildred Elois McDaniel Wells-Taylor, 76, of Gurdon died Monday, June 7, 1999, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Hot Springs after an extended illness with leukemia.
Mrs. Wells-Taylor was born March 26, 1923, in Waldron, the daughter of the late William A. 'Gus' and Ethel Richmond McDaniel. She was a housewife and lifelong member of the Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Barney Ray Wells of the South Fork community, two brothers, Lloyd McDaniel and William Olen McDaniel, and a sister, Lora Evelyn McDaniel.
Survivors of this loving wife, mother and grandmother include her husband, John William 'J.W.' Taylor; one daughter, Shirley Ray Wells-English and her husband, Robert, of Hoffman Estates, Ill.; one granddaughter, Diana Ray Wells-English of Hoffman Estates, Ill.; three brothers, Gerald McDaniel of Kansas City, Mo., Gaylen McDaniel of St. Charles, Mo., and Ray McDaniel of Arkadelphia; one sister, Matha McDaniel Fulkerson of Shawnee, Kan.; and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
Members of the Wells family include Elmer Lee Wells of Gurdon, Rufus and Donna Wells of South Fork community in Gurdon, Joyce Ann (Wells) and Bill Dull of Maui, Hawaii, and Joe Lynn and Janice Wells of Liberty, Mo., and many nieces and nephews.
Members of the Taylor family include Anna (Taylor) and David Blase of Nashville, David and Priscilla Taylor of Canadian, Texas, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 11, at the Church of Christ in Gurdon with Don Stanley and David Blase officiating. Interment was in South Fork Cemetery under the direction of Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home of Arkadelphia.
Pallbearers were Elmer Lee Wells, Rufus Wells, Joe Lynn Wells, Ronnie Wells, Donnie Wells, David Taylor and Lyndell Price.
Sarah Rogers Wells
Sarah Rogers Wells, 39, of Sparkman died Saturday, June 21, 1997.
She was born May 9, 1958, in Arkadelphia, the daughter of Fred and Mary Shinn of Pangburn. She was a certified nurse's aide at Sparkman Care Center and a member of the Crossroads Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include her husband, Tommy Wells; one son, Wade Wells of Sparkman.; three daughters, Tammy Wells and Belinda Wells, both of Sparkman, and Lynn Shelton of Weir, Kans.; her parents, Fred and Mary Shinn of Pangburn; two brothers, Jimmy and Bobby Mongtomery. both of Birmingham, Ala.; and one sister, Lois Ramsey of Pangburn.
Graveside services were June 25, in Rose Hedge Cemetery at Gurdon under the direction of Murry-Ruggles funeral Home.
John J. Wells
John J. Wells departed this life on Sunday, November 2, 1997 at this home at the age of 64. He was a member of the Center Grove Methodist Church , a Veteran of the Korean Conflict and a retired employee of the City of Gurdon's Street Department.
Survivors include his wife, Annie; two sons, Bobby and daughter-in- law Judy Wells, Tab Wells; a daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Steve Baird all of Gurdon; a brother, Carl Wells of Arkadelphia; three sisters, Nancy Rutherford of Arkadelphia, Louise Presson of Prescott and Betty Ledbetter of Gurdon; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 4 in Center Grove Methodist Church with interment in the Center Ridge Cemetery. Horne Funeral Home of Gurdon was in charge of arrangements.
Pallbears were Tommy Eckert, Gary Plyler, John Paul Dickerson, James West, Steve Baird and Joe Eckert. Officiating minsiters were Brother Keith Dodson and Brother Bill Read.
Bob F. Wells
Bob F. Wells, 72, of Gurdon died Monday, May 27, 1996.
He was a retired electrician for Fafnir Bearing. He was a member of Southfork Baptist Church and an army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Joe Wells; two sons, Ricky Wells and Ralph Thomas of Gurdon; a daughter, Connie Clinton of La Grange, Ky.; three brothers, James T. Wells of Okolona, Carl `Buddy' Wells of Gum Springs and John J. Wells, of Gurdon; three sisters, Louise Presson of Prescott, Betty Ledbetter of Gurdon and Nancy Rutherford of Arkadelphia; eight grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services were Thursday, May 30, at Southfork Baptist Church with interment in the Southfork Cemetery by Horne Funeral Home of Gurdon.
James Thomas Wells
James Thomas `Jim Tom' Wells, 71, of Okolona died Friday, November 8, 1996, at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock.
He was born February 8, 1925, in Seymore, Texas, the son of the late Bedford and Edna Reed Wells. He was a retired farmer, an avid fisherman, an army veteran of World War II and a member of Southfork Baptist Church. He was preceeded in death by one brother, Bob Wells.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel Wilson Wells; two brothers, Carl `Buddy' Wells of Gurdon; three sisters, Sammy Louise Presson of Prescott, Betty Frances Ledbetter of Gurdon and Nancy Jo Rutherford of Arkadelphia; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and burial were Monday, November 11, at the Southfork Cemetery with Rev. Loy Garner officiating. Memorials may be made to Southfork Cemetery Fund or the charity of your choice. Arrangements were under the direction of Murry-Ruggles Funeral Home of Arkadelphia.
Joe Leamon Presson
Joe Leamon Presson, 63, of Gurdon, a cab driver for 43-years, died Friday, June 8, 1990.
He was a Baptist. Survivors are his wife, Louise "Wells" Presson; two sons, Joe Presson of Anadarko, OK, and Jerry Presson of Gurdon; three daughters, Shirley Brown of Urbana, Martha Brown of Boughton, and Linda Marks of Statford, OK; two brothers, Glenn Presson of Dallas, TX and Charles Presson of Seagraves, TX; three sisters, Joy Ervin of Calera, OK, Opal Porter of Andrews, TX, and Jane Curtis of Seagraves, TX; 13 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. Burial was in the South Fork Cemetery near Gurdon.
Billy Jack Wells
Billy Jack Wells, 53, of Ashdown, died Friday (1986).
He was the shipping supervisor for Nekoosa of Ashdown, a veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Church of Christ of Ashdown.
Survivors include his wife, Coylene Gaither Wells of Ashdown; three sons, Dennis Wells of Nashville, AR, Kent Wells of Nashville, TN, and Kevin Wells of Ashdown; a daughter, Teresa Ashcraft of Searcy; seven brothers, Frances Wells of MO, Raymond, Wayne, Donald, and Jimmy Wells, all from Gurdon, Gene Wells of El Dorado and Tommy Wells of Ashdown; two sisters, Pauline Powell of Arkadelphia and Linda DeVault of Clebourne, TX, and three grandsons.
Funeral was Sunday in the Ashdown Church of Christ. Burial was in the South Fork Cemetery by Horne Funeral Home of Gurdon.
Alice Wells, 94, of Gurdon, widow of Sam Wells, died Friday, May 11, 1984. She was a Baptist.
Survivors are a son, Elmo Wells of Mojave, CA; two daughters, Zula Carlile of Arvin, CA, and Vivian Barker of Lawrence, MI; 19 grandchildren; and 56 great grandchildren; and 16b great great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, May 14, 1984, at Horne Funeral Home in Gurdon, AR. Burial was in the South Fork Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Alfred Smith, Arlie Craig, Jessie Roberts, Lockie Golden, Jim Wells, and Sherrell Jester.
