Hi there!

I'm a black capped conure and,
Believe it or not, so are these.
You see, I'm whatcha call your
"normal" but my room mates
here, are what's come to be
known as the "voren strain"
mutation.

I hate to admit it but, they're
Kinda pretty, ain't they ?

Here's Ma, showing off their
coloring.

And here's me.
Just for the sake of
comparison.
Personally, I think I'm kinda
pretty too!

And, while I'm at it, I might as well
introduce you to some more relatives
of mine. . .
These are some moulted feathers from Shadow, a Black Capped Conure.  He looked perfectly normal until about two or three years of age, then started showing some signs of "Pied" coloring.  Even befor that though, we were seeing it in his male offspring.  He is paired with a normal female not of Voren lines.

Here is one of Shadow's sons with his wing being held out to show the variations of coloring.  There is also yellow that appears on the back and in the wing coverts.  It can vary in size from a large fleck to a "splotch."  We've never seen anything quite like these guys and, so far, neither has anyone else we've talked to.  We really don't know what they are but, for lack of a better term, we're calling them pieds.
