For Art's Sake

This story centers around a celebration of the life of Val’s ex, Arthur, as he suffers through the late stages of AIDS.  The intent for this story is to eventually put it into play form, with a set of scenes centering around Marc as he tries to understand the dynamic of Ron, Val, and Arthur’s relationship via the ways that their others friends explain it to him.


     “Look what I found,” said one of Art’s friends, holding up a videotape.  “I seem to recall you looking for this for years.”
     “Camelot!” said Art.
     “Camelot!” repeated Val.
     “Camelot!” said someone else.
     “It’s just a videotape,” I said.


     As I passed through the room, I heard snippets of conversation.  “Never share the stage with kids or animals,” one guy was saying.
     “I have a friend in Chicago — a stripper — who says that statement isn’t complete,” said another.  “Never share the stage with kids, animals, or a bodybuilder who can perform auto-fellatio.
