Self Portrait #5

I'm a Seattle based artist who's equally at home doing visual, movement, and musical arts. I began drawing at a very early age and studied fine arts, sculpting, printmaking, and graphic design at Ball State University in Muncie Indiana. I started playing guitar/bass at eleven and was self-taught through my college years. After a short time playing in rock/folk bands and bluegrass mandolin I began studying classical guitar, music composition, and eventually, Afro-Cuban/Brazilian percussion in Bloomington Indiana. In 1978 I received an advanced belt in Mudokwan Tae Kwon Do Karate. In 1980 I began studying with the world renowned Tai Chi master William C.C. Chen who certified me to teach in 1988, and honored me with a Diploma in 1997.

I excel as a photographer, graphic designer, and printer, and I teach classical guitar, bass, T'ai Chi Ch'uan, a variety of Chinese Martial Arts weapons, and In-line Skating in the Seattle area and throughout the US.

If you or your organization have in service, health care, and healthy lifestyle needs, I'm now a member of American Whole Health Networks, Inc. and a Group Health Cooperative Preferred Provider list offering creative problem solving, risk and need assessment, interactive lecture/demonstration services. I can organize workshops of as little as three contact hours for your staff and clients. E-mail to inquire about price, package and availability.

Recently, I did the sound design for Langston Hughes' "Diva Daughters DuPree," Seattle choreographer Wade Madsen's piece, "Don's Party," had a one-man art show at Seattle's Teahouse Kuan Yin, was the principle guitarist in the Eastside Community Theater's production of "Man of La Mancha," and principle guitar/bassist in Sharon Fogarty's "How To See In The Dark" at Manhattan Theatre Source in New York City.

Currently I'm organizing a charity to help get string instruments and lessons to disadvantaged kids and to hold art auctions whose proceeds go directly to help relieve suffering throughout the world. I'm working on a series of wood sculptures, performing solo classical guitar for all occasions, playing with the classical violin/guitar duo Duet à la Fête and am studying upright jazz bass with one of Seattle best jazz bassist, Doug Miller. Finally, I design and build custom furniture, custom mosaic tile and woodwork, and am available for creative projects of all kinds.
