Welcome to 1002's life list. Life lists are maintained by many birders to build a continually changing inventory of species that an individual birder has personally seen or heard (a lot of birding is done by ear). Many birders seek to increase the size of this inventory as an indication of their success as birders. Some purposefully, and still others fanatically (AKA "twitchers"), hunt down exotic species in order build upon their life lists. It becomes, for some, a method of deciding where to travel on vacations or on mere jaunts into parks, forests, preserves, or other such areas previously unvisited by an individual birder. Our list is a bit different. Ours is a list of species that have come to visit us. We have seen other species in our own limited travels, but we thought that it was more important that we maintain a list of birds we have seen here at 1002. All the hyperlinks below retrieve images that were photographed by us here. We have some photographs of the same species that are better than those exhibited here, but, again, we felt it was important to concentrate on what we were able to capture on film here. We hope to add to this page as other species visit us and improve the page with new photographs when we capture better or different images. We hope you enjoy it.
