We are a world-wide community of violists and violinists, professional and amateur performers of classical music, teachers, students, composers, luthiers and audiophiles. We encourage discussion of topics of interest to the above: performances and performers, technical help with pieces, instrument selection and construction, music theory and history, where to find music . . . even the Law of Gravity (Trust us, it is relevant!)

All ages, all degrees of musical ability are welcome. No questions or comments are treated in other than a friendly, communal spirit. And there will be no List Owner to ban allegedly "inappropriate" messages, although we urge all posters to remember whom they are addressing when they post. We hope to create an environment that is at once scholarly and informative as well as congenial, supportive and (even!) entertaining. If you are an aficionado (of any age or level of experience) of the viola, violin, stringed instruments or classical music, we look forward to including you in our membership.

Quoteworthy

"Wherever there are beginners and experts, old and young, there is some kind of learning going on, and some kind of teaching. We are all pupils and we are all teachers."

(Glibert Highet, The Art of Teaching)

". . . if I were to begin life again I would dedicate it to music; it is the only cheap and unpunished rapture upon earth."

(Sydney Smith)
