Mountain Range Stone #1

This was one of the most interesting of stones to work with. The top surface had been worn and polished by running water, however the base was equally curvaceous. There was a distinct edge around the stone that I tried to follow while carving. I wanted to lighten the look of the daiza by working the daiza underside to follow as much as possible the curvature of the stone’s underside and to mimic the natural forms of the rock.

The stone was large (for me) about 14 inches across and the daiza is black walnut, unstained.
