Plateau Stone #2

ag06033.jpg

This is a large (for me) stone about 14 inches across. The stone had deep ‘growths’ on the underside, including one very close to the front edge, that prevented any thought of a shallow, Japanese style daiza. I decided to add the horizontal bands to visually thin out the otherwise thick base. The bands also emulated some of the natural formations on the stone.

The daiza is black walnut, additionally stained a little darker with walnut stain.

A view of the inside of the daiza shows how deep the underside ‘growths’ were.
