Due to a growing family and a change
in priorities I needed to consolidate my radio equipment
into a minimum size package that would permit quick
transions between storage and operation. Luckily I had the
presence of mind to purchase an ICOM 706-MKII-G when the
budget allowed, knowing that it would lend itself well to
this purpose. Combined with an Astron SS-25M power supply, a
MFJ 901B antenna tuner and a Radio Shack SWR/Power meter the
whole stack is very compact. I left room in the bottom to
carry operating accessories like paddles and log book, plus
a 300-ohm J-pole antenna for 2m.
