Have you noticed all the ads on TV hawking drugs? How can you miss them? Now WE'RE supposed to tell our doctor what drug we want. Never mind the prescription drugs, what about those for erectile dysfunction, constipation, rashes, good bacteria for the gut, and the list goes on. Everything to do with bodily functions. Like Med students who exhibit symptoms of the diseases they are studying, we consumers are coming down with everything too! Why? Because it's planted in our minds to watch for this gurgle or that gurgle, this burp or that burp, heartburn, etc. Leave me alone already! And it's all because of greed. The manufacturers are deliberately turning people into paranoid hypochondriacs who run out and buy the latest products they saw hawked on TV.

For years we've been told to take aspirin to ward of a heart attack. Now we're told doing so may cause slight bleeding in the brain. Are you kidding me? If the heart attack doesn't kill you the bleeding on the brain will do the job?

What about the ads that spew all the side effects of these miracle drugs...including death. At the same time we are told to weigh the side effects against the benefits. Well, I'm sorry, there is no worse side effect than death. How can the FDA allow such products to be aired on TV? Worse, how can they allow them to be manufactured when it seems the treatment is worse than the disease. If the disease doesn't kill you, the treatment will. Much like Dogs and heartworms.

Now Lawyers (ambulance chasers) are in the mix..begging you to contact them if you or a loved one suffered this and that or DEATH from a certain medicine. And the list of horrendous drugs keeps growing.

When is all this going to stop? Take the ads off TV. We are deliberately being led down this path of paranoia and hypochondria for the benefit of the drug companies and now attorneys. This is insane.

Years ago we did very well, thank you, without being told what ails us by some spokesperson. Years ago we listened to our bodies, not some actor dressed up to look like a doctor. But then years ago all these wonder drugs weren't killing us either.

Years ago we didn't have over the counter drugs that helped our body forget its natural cycles, or how to cleanse itself. As a rather gross example: I have a friend who was talked into, what is it...colonics, where a machine acts like..well a giant enema. Truly believing this was a lifesaver, he was treated twice a week for quite a while. Guess what? Over time his body had problems eliminating waste on its own. I told him that would happen, but did he listen to me?! Nooooo! He listened to the people hawking the expensive (if not embarrassing) treatment. It was simple common sense that flew out the window in the face of a fad (I hope it's only a fad).

I can honestly say there is only one product I've seen advertised that I ran out and ordered, and it wasn't even a drug but a face serum. Skeptical? Yes. But what if it did work like all the reviews claimed? Well, I'm here to tell you it works. In fact, it is remarkable. And I shall keep buying it. Yup... they grabbed this consumer, but I am not going to die from it or get some horrible symptom that will make me wish I were dead.

Bottom line? I think it is grossly irresponsible of the FDA to allow such advertising. But the only thing I can do is turn a blind eye and deaf ear. I either turn the channel or hit the mute button.
