Details of the Hunt Written by Laura Baumbach
Logline: A time traveling bounty hunter snatchs a 16th century pirate, but when the bounty
hunter finds his likable, free-spirited prey reminds him of his recently deceased younger brother, and his new buyer to be
unscrupulous, he attempts to alter the deal.
Synopsis: Agustus Barlow, 26th century antiquities dealer obsessed with pirates has
a 700-year-old treasure map. Now he needs the 700-year-old pirate who made it to unlock it's secrets. Barlow convinces a species
of time-traveling, alien bounty hunters to procure his pirate by presenting the benefits to Earth history and people if the
lost Mayan treasure is recovered.
Talos, a Hunter with a fondness for humans agrees to take the hunt. He k. kidnaps wily, light-fingered,
scallywag Aidan Maymon. Maymon is being throw overboard, tied to a barrel into a school of feasting sharks at the hands of
mutinous shipmates. Native to the Jamaican Island, the pirate's mother imprinted him with her peoples religious beliefs and
Talos' species bears an uncanny resemblance to the mystical sea spirits her people call Cemi. When Talos saves Maymon from
drowning and being eaten alive, the superstitious pirate thinks the Cemi gods he has been paying tribute to with treasure
offerings have come to take him to his death and spirit life. He has a difficulty adjusting to reality once he awakens in
the 26th century, a captive to his own Cemi God.
Barlow has no intention of waiting for Talos' people to turn Maymon over to him. He hires mercenaries
from a species with a permanent bounty on their heads to get the pirate.
Ambushed by theses mercenaries on his return, Talos is forced to put down for repairs on the space station
Pathos Six, run by an old friend, Commander Marius Webb. Talos is still grieving over the recent death of his youngest brother
who tried to follow in Talos' footsteps and died as a result of his persistent innocence. Talos is now forced to spend time
with his captive. Talos finds Maymon to be a crafty, immortal, conniving, lying kleptomaniac. But he also has an endearing
childlike quality about him that pokes at Talos' conscience and reminds him of his younger brother. Talos begins to feel
the same weight of responsibility he had for his brother -- bringing another young man into a life he is ill prepared to deal
with, one that may cost him his life as well as his freedom. Talos faces the moral dilemma of giving his bounty to Barlow,
or terminating the hunt and turning Maymon over to his own people for relocation, a fate as undesirable as life as a slave
or plaything to Barlow. He also weights the morality of sacrificing one persons life for the advancement of scientific knowledge
and wealth, and his lifestyle as a detached bounty Hunter.
On the other end of the partnership, Maymon is trying to deal with his new situation. He is sure he
is either dead or dreaming. Either way, he is intent on exploring his new world and enjoying it with gusto. So many pockets
to pick and bars to hunt down. He temporarily escapes, but Talos easily finds him by the trail of chaos he leaves in his
wake. Talos tagged Maymon with a metal bracelet on capture that marks him as belonging to the hunter, for safety. Maymon see
it as a sign of slavery and ownership. He is forever trying to remove it, without success.
After a murder attempt on Talos' life and a visit to the sickbay for both Talos and Maymon as a result,
Dr. Jaclyn Rice, Webb's girlfriend, becomes a defender of Maymon and a strong-willed, verbal sparring partner to Talos. She
finds his treatment of Maymon deplorable, likening it to keeping a pet. She cures many of Maymon's physical problems that
were common for people from the 18th century, including cutting his lice ridden hair, which horrifies him to the point he
almost stops flirting with her.
When Barlow unjustly fears a double cross, he threatens Talos with buying an illegal hunt on the Hunter
himself. Talos uses this as an excuse to terminate the agreement, deciding the pirate is better off relocated then in Barlows
insane hands. While Talos is negotiating the pirates fate with his own people, Barlow is scheming, sending his mercenaries
to the station in Talos' absence to kidnap the pirate. The space stations doctor, Dr. Jaclyn Rice, Webb's girlfriend, is taken
as well during the attack. Talos and Webb, go after them.
Barlow has Maymon taken to Earth. Using Rice as leverage Barlow forces Maymon to reveal his centuries
old, previously unfindable treasures location. An underwater sea chamber is discovered, and the treasure found. Talos and
Webb arrive and in the chaos of the rescue attempt, Maymon sword fights with Barlow for Rices life and wins by cheating. When
defeated, Barlow cheats and Maymon is critically wounded in the exchanged. In a race against time, Talos uses his teleporting
skills to return the four of them to the space station. As they watch the pirate's critical condition deteriorate, the weight
of the responsibility of bringing Maymon to a world he can't possibly function in nearly destroys Talos.
As Maymon nears final death, Talos older brother arrives with three fellow Hunters. They change the
course of recent events to save Maymons life. The kidnapping is prevented. Talos has the Hunt declared void in formal Council
and invokes an ancient hunter's right to claim his bounty as his own property. Accepting his responsibility for bringing the
pirate into his time, Talos refuses to allow Maymon to be relocated and adopts him into his own family cache as a younger
brother.
Barlow and his mercenaries becomes the prey in a very short and final Ritual Group Hunt.
