Writers, Producers, and Management since 1984
***************************************
Your screenplay has one chance to make a dynamite impression with a production company or agency....so
don't blow it!
The simple truth is that you are sabotaging your "career" by submitting material that is not ready for market.
Do not assume that submitting to a few producers (or agents), simply to test the waters, will not adversely effect your "potential"
career. Production companies are not only looking for superior material, they are looking for superior writers who
can run with an assignment. Your spec script is a "calling card"; it determines whether you have the "stuff" of the best writers.
The company will not only cover your screenplay but it will also assess your writing skills; if you don't "cut it" as a writer,
and do not receive a "consider" or "recommend" (as a writer) on the coverage, then..well, you know what happens next. They
will remember who you are. Are writers discussed amongst production companies? You bet. Are spec scripts discussed? You bet.
Should you be paranoid? Of course! At least to the extent that you present the best screenplay possible and shine as a writer.
You want to be remembered as a terrific writer even if the company does not option or buy your screenplay. Terrific
writing opens countless doors.
Remember, just as a terrific screenplay is discussed "around town"... so too is a lousy one. The same applies
to writers themselves. This is a tough business that takes no prisoners. Only those up to the challenge....win.
Being realistic about the business is essential for survival. Remember, "they" don't need you. There
are thousands of "you" out there willing to do whatever they must to make the best first impression and present the
best screenplay possible. Your job is to make them want you.
So what will it be? Are you ready to "blow some minds" with a "can't put down" screenplay and exceptional
writing (and make them want you), or are you going to hang your head in defeat before the fight has even begun?!
Are you tenacious and dedicated to your goal? Yes?! I thought so! Terrific! So let's get to work
on your screenplay and start on your journey to open those doors! And we will, you know.

"Margo was my screenwriting mentor. She worked closely with me for many years and taught me all the ins and outs
of screenwriting and the movie industry. Thanks to Margo I have 2 produced screenplays under my belt and a 3rd film in pre-production
as well as producer credit on each. I highly recommend Margo Prescott. She is a wonderful mentor and one of the nicest people
you will ever meet in this crazy industry. April 13, 2009" ~J. Pizzo

in the format.Your creativity, particularly in action sequences, has taken the material from the banal to the "good read"
every producer seeks..."
"...so far all of the screenplays that you have helped me with have won awards."
"You are nothing short of amazing (and you can quote me on that!)"
"I'm certain you've heard this a zillion
times-but you are AWESOME! Not only did your notes create a base for a much better work, but I learned a lot in the process!"
