Purple Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea)
This perennial understory herb features showy 3" daisy-like flowers ranging from dark pink to white. Butterflies find the plant irresistable. The old-time garden favorite is excellent in mass plantings or tall borders and even makes an attractive cut flower. Purple coneflower has numerous medicinal qualities and was highly valued by the American Indian. The plant needs to be protected from deer.
