Bur Oak (Quercus macrocarpa) This stately white oak with a broad, spreading crown is one of our best shade trees. Fast growing and disease-free, bur oak is an excellent choice for meadow and acreage plantings. The large acorns are a valuable wildlife resource but are a nuisance in yards or driveways. The tree is immune to oak wilt. Bur oak is deer resistant but young trunks need to be protected from rubbing antlers.
