Anacacho Orchid Tree (Bauhinia congesta)

Although found wild in Texas in only two locations, this is one of the best small ornamental trees for the Central and Southern regions of the state. It is usually multi-trunked with a sinuous form and small duets of bright green leaves. In the Spring, the tree is generously covered with fragrant white flowers. Subsequent flushes of blooms follow heavy Summer/Fall rains.

Anacacho Orchid Tree is moderately fast growing if given regular watering but is also tough enough to withstand extreme drought. The tree is cold hardy as far north as Austin but can be nipped back by extremely cold winters. It is an excellent choice for container gardens and bonsai.

Anacacho Orchid Tree is deer resistant.

Fragrant flowers are a Spring favorite
