Coral Bean (Erythrina herbacea) A long-lived perennial, Coral Bean shoots out spikes of tropical looking foilage from a swollen root stock. The exotic flowers form along the tip of each spike and are then replaced by dangling pods which show off the coral red seeds. This plant adapts well to shady spots with heavy soil and poor drainage but thrives in landscape beds as well. It should not be placed right next to walkways as it has small hooked thorns along the stems. Coral bean is deer-resistant.
