Remote Pinyon Pine cones with seeds

Why is it important to buy native stock from a reputable source?

One of the benefits of buying Madrone Nursery plants is that the seeds have been collected from genetically pure populations, often in remote corners of Texas mountains, canyons, fields, and deserts.

This eliminates the chance of buying a tree such as a Mexican White or "Monterrey" Oak (Quercus polymorpha) that is actually a hybrid, grown from acorns collected from trees growing too near other oak species. Not only are such hybrids more susceptible to insect damage and disease, they often perform poorly in your landscape.

Owner Dan Hosage is a nationally recognized botanist and experienced plant taxonomist. He insists on growing stock that is true to name, so you will always know what you are getting - no surprises!
