We choose plants from rugged environments

Why are Madrone Nursery plants better than the ones I can buy at my local "superstore" nursery?

Plants shipped in from East Texas, Florida and California often rely on seed stock from trees or shrubs growing in areas where local rainfall is higher and the soil is more acidic. Native species from the Edwards Plateau and Trans-Pecos regions of Texas are much more adapted to our unpredictable weather and alkaline soil.

Here at Madrone Nursery, we make every effort to select seeds from Texas populations that are exposed to weather extremes and are thriving in less than ideal conditions. Our hardy stock offers better long-term success in your Hill Country landscape. These plants have passed the test!
