Attendance:  Gail Spane, Ed Camin, John and Celeste Tsaklis, Cassie Snow, John Springthorpe, Debi Westbrook,  Judy Gammons, Andrea Morrison, Pat Altic, Jan Atkins.  Jan Atkins, Coordinator, called the meeting to order at 6:45 p.m. 


John Springthorpe introduced the fund raiser for the Shepherd's House, a shelter for homeless families, to be held at Cross Creek Country Club on Friday, February 27 at 6:00 p.m.  Tickets are $25 per person for a meal and entertainment.   Chances for a drawing for a car cost $100 each.  Several members plan to attend the event and many have donated artwork for the silent auction.   Debi Westbrook will make a sign for the League's art display.

 
Many volunteers are needed to assist with the League's spring art show.  The show will be held at The Gallery Group and Art Studio, 162 West Pine Street, Mount Airy.   Their phone number is 336-786-0057. 

 

Artwork will be accepted there on Wednesday, March 25, 4-8 p.m. and Thursday, March 26,  10 a.m. to 12:00 noon.   Pick Up Date is Saturday, April 25, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.   These dates are firm.   There is no storage service available.


The Juror is Dr. Leslye Bloom, who will  judge the exhibit on Thursday, March 26 in the afternoon.   All Art League members and friends are invited to meet for dinner with Dr. Bloom  in the meeting room at the Golden Corral on Rockford Street (601) at 7:00 that evening.  She will discuss some art techniques she enjoys.  By Wednesday, March 25, please let Andrea Morrison (276-755-3040 or rtstbrush@hotmail.com) know if you can come.

 

Responsibilities for Organizing the Art Show


Before the Show
Prepare, Print and Distribute Paper and Emailed Entry Forms--Ed Camin (done & attached), Order Ribbons--Andrea Morrison, Design, Print and Disseminate Publicity Flyers--Andrea Morrison, Write and Submit Newspaper Articles Announcing the Exhibit--Andrea Morrison, Provide People's Choice Box (in Gallery), Ballots, Pencils? 

 

Recruit Donations and Purchase Awards--All members!   Contact individuals and professionals and businesses you patronize. Turn in names and amounts to Jan Atkins j3dogs@earthlink.net) as soon as possible (Monday, March 9 at the latest).

 

Recruit Juror--Andrea Morrison (done) , Invitations to the Reception to Juror (she is not able to attend), sponsors, purchase award donors, Gallery Group Staff and Board. 

Receiving:  Wednesday, March 25, 4-8 p.m. and Thursday, March 26, 10 a.m. to 12 noon--Jan Atkins, Ed Camin and Cassie Snow.


Duties for Receiving: Record information from Inventory Card for each piece of artwork on ledger sheet. Assign each piece of artwork a code number.   Write the code number on the ledger sheet and on a sticker that is placed on the right side of the frame. 

 

Confirm that the completed "Label for Artwork" is on the back of each piece of artwork. Store inventory cards in a file box in alphabetical order by artists' last names. Accept fee. Write receipt. Display artwork in its proper category for accessibility for the Juror. 

 

 The categories are Oil/Acrylic, Watermedia, Drawing and Mixed Media (two dimensional only).


DUES to join the Mount Airy Art League are $20 per

year and are due at the time of the Art Show. Hosting the Judge:  Take down her comments about the

Show in general and individual artwork.  Thursday, March 26, 1-4 p.m. Duties for Preparing the Exhibit: Display the artwork:   Gallery Group Staff and MAAL volunteers, if needed.


Host Purchase Award Donors:(probably Friday, March 27, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.)  Gallery Group Staff (?)


Prepare checks for Winners--Cassie Snow. Prepare identification labels for each piece of artwork--Pat Altic. Prepare labels giving Purchase Award Donors names, Type, print, and fold Program Handout for Reception--Jody Crawford. Program includes:  Title of event, date, location; Viewing hours; Judge's statement;  List of all entries, artists, media, prices;


List of winners;  List of sponsors and Purchase Award Donors; List of Volunteers. Reception, Sunday, March 29, 2-5 p.m.

 

Refreshments--All members bring nice snacks. Table cloths, center pieces, cups, napkins, plates, forks--Judy Gammons. Punch--Celeste Tsalkis, Host the table: Serve punch, refill refreshments, keep neat--Judy Gammons and ? Master of Ceremonies-? Assistant to the Master of Ceremonies-?

Check-out Day, Saturday, April 25, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.  Gallery Group Staff (?) Persons picking up artwork write their names and the names of artwork they are taking.

 

 There was thoughtful discussion about expanding the categories to include Photography in this year's show.  There is a  photography contest occuring at the time of our show sponsored by the Public Libraries in this region.  Debi Westbrook moved and Celeste Tsaklis seconded that the Art League sponsor a photography contest this summer.

 

Debi Westbrook shared information about exhibits taking place soon at the Sawtooth, Associated Artists, Gateway Gallery, Davidson County Community College and a Show and Sale on March 21, 12 noon to 5 p.m. at Allison Oaks Winery in Yadkinville for the benefit of the Yadkin County Arts Council.  Contact Debi at 336-469-9139 for further information.

TW Signs and Graphics, 270 Hickory Street, Mount Airy, which is owned by Kim and Theresa, now prints artwork onto banners, flags, wall paper, murals, and frameable canvas.

 Ed Camin moved and Gail Spane seconded that we reserve space now at the Gallery Group for next year's spring show.   Motion passed.   Jan will make the reservation. Meeting was adjourned. Tasty refreshments were served by Celeste and Judy.  Gail Spane will bring refreshments and Cassie Snow will bring drinks to our March 2 meeting to be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Weekend Gallery.
