The story that I have been told, and I definitely like this story, is that the Dixie brewery had been using the word
"fortified" on their labels. The Feds decided this implied greater alcoholic strength and/or unsubstantiated health
benefits and told them to stop. So the brewery used "45" instead as in a good New Orleans accent it sounded the same.

It hard to get the older cans such as this without a lot of tranish on the gold.
