Description of Potential Workshop Topics
-
Conflict Mediation/Peaceful Planet
- Imagining A Sustainable Planet (Imagining a World Without Weapons or Without War) --
can be 8 to 16 hours
-
This is a powerful workshop placing participants in touch with their visions of peace and a sustainable
planet, developing the image and also seeing in a "backwards history" how such change is possible. Participants
learn a dynamic, non-linear way of goal setting that can be useful in all their endeavors, and this
workshop is very hopeful and inspiring.
- Conflict Resolution in Daily Life -- 20 hour intro
-
This is a three day workshop which is very experiential. Through participating in exercises, participants
focus on cooperation, communication skills, community building, problem solving, and transforming power
(the power of non-violence). Participants gain insight into their approach to conflict and practical
skills for resolving conflicts that occur in daily life.
- Away from Stereotyping & Toward Embracing Differences -- 11 to 19 hours
-
This is designed to be a follow-up to the previous workshop. Through experiential exercises, it allows
people to explore how stereotyping works and how to cross barriers.
- Dealing with Difficult People (Communication Skills for Resolving Conflicts) -- 8 hours
-
This workshop focuses more exclusively on conflict styles and communication skills for resolving conflict,
and on giving participants better tools for dealing with conflict.
-
Workplace issues
- Organizational Long-Term Goal Setting -- 8 to 16 hours
-
The facilitator will lead the group in establishing a vision for the future of their organization and
identifying the steps that will be necessary to achieve their goals.
- Understanding Internalized Oppression -- 2 to 3 hours
-
This educational workshop helps participants understand how oppressed groups can have internalized attitudes,
behaviors and responses to the oppression that they experience in the larger society. The workshop helps
participants think about their responses to people of different groups and how to better support people
in oppressed groups.
-
Psychoeducational workshops
- Couples Communication for the Long Haul -- 8 hours
-
This is a workshop for couples to understand their conflict styles, why their fights go the way they
do, and learn communication and problem solving skills that will make conflict more productive.
- How Sexism Effects Women's Well-being -- 2 to 3 hours
-
This workshop identifies the internalized effects of sexism for women and talks about ways of stepping
out of the patterns.
- Non-Sexist Parenting -- 2 to 3 hours
-
This workshop talks about how sexist patterns get laid for both boys and girls, and what parents can
do to counter the effects of sexism in our society. This workshop is not a panacea, but it is a good
beginning.
-
Spiritual Workshops
- Patchwork Faith (Creating a Personal Theology) -- intended for 4 or 5 sessions
-
Often times people who have changed faiths have a collection of theological beliefs from their old and
new faiths. This is a workshop about sorting out the pieces, and being able to articulate one's own
personal theology.
- To Pray in a New Way (Making Prayer One's Own) -- 2 to 4 sessions
-
This is a workshop that helps people explore the ways they were taught to pray, how they conceptualize
prayer, and what kind of prayer makes sense in light of their current theological beliefs.>
- Healing One's Spiritual Life -- 4 or 5 sessions, each 2 to 3 hours long
-
The premise of this workshop is that some unhealed traumas in our lives wind up effecting how we conceptualize
and experience the Divine. The workshop uses prayer, worship, and the support of the group to heal the
wounds that block our spiritual life. The workshop is both spiritual and therapeutic and is lead by
a professional therapist.
