wood carved Pilgrims

Welcome to Page 3, Ev's older carvings

This is a hobby we work at for our own pleasure. We like to display our work on the web and get reactions from others. Hope you enjoy your visit, there are a lot more carvings to see, use the menu bars above and below to move to other pages.

We've met some very talented wood carvers here in Oklahoma City. The one we admire the most is Jim Crist, he is a teacher, carver, chain saw carver all in one package. We used to display some of his work on our old web site. I'm thinking of putting some of his work on this site. We've lost track of Jim, don't know what he's up to now, but his old stuff will blow your mind. Oops! Larry has posted a link to Jim's carvings at the bottom of his page. enjoy!

I've carved quite a few Christmas ornaments over the years, but I usually manage to give them away faster than I can make them. Some years I carve santa pins for gifts. My nativity set that I carved over a period of 3-4 years, was one of my first projects. Every once in a while, I think, I'd like to make a new Nativity set, I know, I could do a much better job now that I'm more experienced, but I'm also more tired. I guess that's what you call a catch 22.

On the left is the Captain and his wife. They are Wall Hooks I carved many years ago. I had them mounted outside the garden shed in our house in Los Angeles. I don't remember what species of wood I used but they have stood up under the elements very well, I gave them a new coat of paint not long ago and they still look good. they have threaded inserts in their backs so as to be easily mounted to walls.

The Giraffe is not an old carving. I finished him in 2007, just didn't have room with the new stuff. I carved a series of Carousel Animals last year. They were fun but it's time for a change, I'm working on a series of Egyptian carvings at present. I've slowed up a lot since moving to the old folks home. Maybe that's a psychological effect?
