Flapper

Welcome To Page 2 of Ev's carvings

Well! here's another of my dancing girls. I call her the Flapper. She is my second best favorite.

You've probably noticed I'm partial to dancing girls and animals. When I was a kid growing up in Los Angeles My Dad would take me to Santa Monica Beach, which was known as Muscle Beach. He had been a strong man in a Carnival when he was young and still liked to work out.

Always, before going home, he would take me to the pier so I could ride the Carousel. That's what led me to carve the Carousel animals. Since I always liked to ride the "Other" animals instead of the horses, that's what I chose to carve.

My favorite subjects to carve are animals. I wanted to do a group and chose the Coyotes because I had patterns with several poses to choose from. On viewing the carving people are often more impressed with the carved rock base the coyotes are resting on than the animals themselves.

I should have mentioned that the coyote group photo is located at the top of my Home Page. Check it out and send me an email to tell me which is your favorite carving.

Coyote

This Coyote is carved and painted in the Alebrije, or fantasy style of carving and painting. It originated in Oazaca, Mexico with the Zapotec indians.
