About The Misfits In Print

The Misfits In Print is a speculative fiction writers group comprised of writers who are actively writing and submitting their fiction for publication. We specialize in the Horror, Fantasy, and Science Fiction genres.

We currently have only two active members, and four members of an e-mail critique group. As a result, we are still looking for active members. If you are a speculative fiction writer who lives in the area and would like to join our group, check below for information on how to join and what to expect in a typical meeting.

HOW TO JOIN

1. This is a group for writers who are actually writing fiction and submitting it for publication. If are not submitting fiction for publication, this is not the group for you.

2. This is an adult group. While nobody in the group writes erotica, we need the freedom to express our creativity without fear of censorship or reprisal. As a result, you must be 18 or older to join.

3. Send an e-mail to misfitsinprint@yahoo.com and tell us a little bit about yourself. This should include your name, age, and previous writing experience. Also tell us what you like to write. Do you prefer SF, Fantasy, or Horror? Do you like to write all three? It should also be noted that, while some members do have novels in progress, our primary focus is on the short forms. We are not properly set up to critique entire novels. As a result, you should be willing to write short stories.

4. You will be required to submit a small writing sample so we can tell if your abilities are in line with the rest of the group. You need to know basic grammar, sentence structure, and be familiar with the genre in which you wish to write.

If you meet these requirements, you will be asked to attend a trial meeting. If that meeting goes well, we will ask you to join the group.

Within one month of joining, you should submit at least one story for critique. Within three months, you should have submitted a story to a market for publication. This should not be a challenge for a serious writer.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM A MISFITS IN PRINT MEETING

WHAT WE DO

The Misfits In Print is a critique group for those actively seeking to publish their work professionally. Stories will be critiqued for plotting, structure, characterization, and prose style. Most critiques will be marked on the manuscript copy for later reference.

GROUND RULES

1. Each writer should bring no more than one short story, or a single chapter/part of a novella, or novelette.

2. They should bring enough copies for every member of the group.

3. The manuscript should be typed in a legible, 12 point typeface and on only one side of the paper.

4. It should be double-spaced, with 1 to 1.5 inch margins, and should include line numbers.

5. The Manuscript should include your name, the story title, and if it is a novella or novelette, the chapter/part number.

6. When critiquing a manuscript, the writer should sign their name to their copy so the author knows who to go to with questions.

7. Whenever possible, critique should be written on the manuscript itself. This allows the author to refer to the critique at a later date.

DEADLINES

Deadlines for those submitting changes to their author profile web page are the first and third Sunday of the month. Changes will be posted the following week, if not sooner.
