The Islands

There were four very particular islands that helped the fire spread to Carthage from West Carthage. The fire started at Eaton Sash and Blind Factory. Then the fire jumped a little to Champion Island. Then from Champion to Devil Island and on to Guyot Island. Next, it jumped to Furnace Island and finally to Carthage. That fire is and forever will be remembered.

The Islands

A long time ago we had a huge fire that ruined Carthage. There was a mill on the shore. That's where the fire started. It burned that factory and jumped to the first island.

The fire jumped from island to island. That's how the fire got to Carthage. The fire was hard to control. It burned the whole town until it had nothing else to burn.

They tried to rebuild Carthage, but they didn't do a good job. Carthage hasn't been the same. I hope the town gets back on its feet.
