The Presbyterian manse, occupied by the pastor, J. V. Shurts, was situated on this Mechanic Street site facing the Spring Street intersection. Rev. Shurts suffered heavy personal losses but soon embarked on a campaign to raise the funds for rebuilding the church and manse.
