Firemen: the unsung heroes of the day.

The Carthage Fire Department in the Fire Hall that replaced the one destroyed by the Fire of 1884.

In this other picture, you see that the Fire Dept and the Village Hall are combined (as they were before the fire; many important documents were lost as well as any equipment not in use - it is supposed that was minimal).

Note the two towers on the building; one is the bell tower (used for sounding alarms) and the second is the hose tower were hoses were hauled up to drain and dry between fires.
