The Railroad
The railroads were a very big help to the firemen. The railroad was the fastest way for the firemen to get to Carthage to help fight the fire. They were just in time because the fire was out of control.
The wind began to blow harder and this caused the tracks to catch on fire. The railroad ties were burned up. After the fire was out, the firemen saw that the railroad was burned. and so were the cars they came on. They had to find another way home, and they had to build a new railroad station.

New York Central Station today - badly in need of a facelift.
