Especially since I've been blessed to be in recovery
from alcohol/drug addiction for
the past twenty-five years, following a twisting,
meandering pathway of spiritual
unfolding, my life has reflected a myriad of
bright points of sparkling wonder. The
following poems resonate times of wonder I have
been graced to perceive . . .
One of my day to day blessings--especially from late April
until October--is that I live about 20 minutes door to sand
from the Nude Beach on Federal property near the Fire Island
Lighthouse on one of the most beautiful of Atlantic Ocean
Beaches. I do a lot of writing there, and this poem describes
one of the most incredible scenes I have ever been graced to
witness.
Ditto for this absolutely wondrous moment--as I say, "It just
doesn't ever get any better than this right here."
Like any poet, I've always have been fascinated by the moon,
especially its different moods and dispositions. This poem
describes a time when I observed the moon to be cattily
playful and coy.
Seagulls have also been a favorite subject of fascination. I
watched with considerable envy the seagull described in this
poem while sitting in one of my favorite spots--Riverside Park
on the Hudson River between 72nd and 79th Streets in New
York City.
I keep learning that any artifact or vista of the natural world
can evoke mysterious flights of imagination and wonder if I
open myself to the myriad possibilities that always exist in
any situation. This poem describes one such time I was
blessed with a full of wonder awareness of a stone.
