Whether it is the loss of a love, or the hapless
intrusion of humankind's
technology, or the judgment and criticism we
humans extend so self-righteously
towards each other, or what have you, betrayal
is one of the poetic themes I have
written perhaps too much about.
Largely due to my betrayal of our relationship with anger,
violence and inattentiveness, my basherta, Sara, several years
ago had a secretive affair with a co-worker which when I
discovered it led to a period of dark writing about her
"betrayal" of me. This is one of the poems from this harsh
period of my life in which I again experienced the truth of one
of my favorite sayings from one of my favorite guru-mentors,
John C. Lilly, who said, "Cosmic Love is highly indifferent
and absolutely ruthless: It teaches Its lessons whether we
like/dislike them or not."
This poem, written shortly after, the 1969 moon landing
poetically depicts my sense of betrayal by the technological
hubris of us sometimes silly humanikins.
