Class Descriptions

Iyengar Yoga will challenge you at many different levels. Based on the Iyengar Model, students can expect to become stronger, more flexible, emotionally and spiritually more centered and aware. This is a process of refinement, moving from gross to subtle and from resistance to release. Wear loose fitting clothes, shorts preferred. And remember: "The degree of effort required to get you this far will not be sufficient to carry you further." (Ain't that the truth!) But don't be scared off by this statement... the instructor, Monti, is very personable and adaptable, with a fantastic sense of humor.

Gyrokinesis incorporates movement principles from yoga, dance, gymnastics, swimming, and tai-chi. It aims at stretching and strengthening muscles while simultaneously stimulating and strengthening connective tissues in and around the joints of the body. Exercises, synchronized with corresponding breath patterns, enhance aerobic and cardiovascular stimulation and promote neuromuscular rejuvenation. Unlike most conventional exercise, where linear or isolated movement patterns are performed, creating uncoordinated strength, Gyrokinesis emphasizes multiple joint articulations without compression, thus strengthening ligaments and attachments. Postures are smoothly and harmoniously connected through the use of breath, making exercises appear and feel more like a dance than traditional yoga.
