LET's make a COMBINATION RELOCATION HELPER! An APARTMENT COST ANALYZER, for DIFFERENT CITIES a LOVE ATLAS!
![]()
This will help us pick the city we want to RELOCATE to, live in, also WHICH borough of the city is stylish yet frugal, gentrified to some extent. And all and any etceteras. This idea came to me when a LIST GAL WROTE: "I'm in (sigh,) BERKELEY (few miles from Frisco,) which has absolutely no rich men because it's all college kids? FRISCO is across the bay so that maybe fixes things. Lots of great restaurants there which only the super rich can afford. When I eat in one, alone, rich men will try to pick me up. I chat and when they want to order champagne to make a big hit, I'm demure, 'are you sure you can afford that? A glass of White wine would be just fine." That line works there? I asked, amazed. It wouldn't in Hollywood. They know faux innocence." Something went off in my brain. "HEY" I wrote her, " you could write up an analysis of the city of BERKELEY and Frisco, and problems getting a job in either, and apartment rent costs, let's go for a studio apartment....analyzing all these from the viewpoint of a woman looking for a very rich husband. Then the STALKING grounds that are best, then analyze the JOB market there. Plus how costly is it to cross the bay to FRISCO daily? TO work, or maybe to play or dine out occasionally.. Twenty minutes on the train isn't a deal breaker. So write up an analysis of FRISCO. OAKLAND AND BERKELEY. I could WRITE up the L.A. SCENARIO. The Other 250 or so gals in the MARRY WELL LUCK IN LOVE CHARISMA CORPS each could write their city up. I'd join it together and publish it here in case anyone wants to move. So help me create and inaugurate a man finder ATLAS!
SO here's the deal. CONTRIBUTE what you know about your city. I'll add it to an HTML ARTICLE and post it. A SAMPLE STUDY OF THE CITY includes rentable areas, costs to rent, good areas of the city, bad areas, it should say 'ethnic market, chicken 49c an lb, super market 1.50$ lb. CAN COFFEE 1.99$ Watch out for X. Y And Z. She sent me a LOVE ATLAS STARTER KIT! (BOY have prices changed since I WROTE THIS!)

950 a month for THIS CLOSET? EEK!
I'll take it, (sigh!)
SAN FRANCISCO, Berkeley, MARIN and Oakland. Most of the area was hit hard by the dot com era. Berkeley and Oakland have what they call "the hills", most of the dot commers that didn't stay in the Silicon Valley live in the hills... that's where the new money lies. Certain parts of SF are new money too, but the ones that have lived there forever are the old money.
Berkeley, yeah, with it being a college town, that's mostly what you find here, however, there are older, more professional men around too. They're few and far between, but they're here! Oakland, well, nicely said, there are very few areas that I visit. Of course I tend to hit the coffee shops and the cafes in the nicer areas, but well, the wealth is not actually in that town. There are more bad areas than not. SF, hit the financial district and the wealth is everywhere! Now, finding a single man, or a man that's not a total tight wad is an issue!
Now, it's not that there aren't men in this area, it's just that I'm at a loss of where to meet the men. All I keep thinking (as I know me, my networking techniques, my ways of taking a good opportunity and turning it into a million dollar affair *pardon the pun*), I just need to know how to get my foot in the door and how to run with it!!!! I have some money coming in from family so I'm able to live a happy, successful and exciting life and don't have to work). No wealthy man will ever be on the computer looking for his one and only... and if he is, he's not networking enough.... that in itself is not a good thing!"
I answered: "One can go with a friend of two to the upscale restaurants, lounges, stores, but HOW can one meet a super upscale man there? THE ANSWER: Be at only the most costly cafes and the priciest WHOLE FOODS market! AVOID bars, lounges and lounge lizards! And of course, you know, when week-ends and holidays come up, don't just sit at home and miss the parties! You need a job to meet lots of girlfriends and a job is good for that.
She wrote me back."Right. No job, knowing limited people in this area, not really having a clue where to go, puts a real damper on me. Now, if there's a young lady that's lived in this area all her life, works and/or has a social life, yeah, she's in! I suggest that working as a secretary (although I don't agree with mixing and mingling at work,) in the financial district in SF, go with the court systems in Oakland (be a legal secratary, be a court reporter--there are single judges and attornies that walk in and out of there every single day), in Berkeley, working for UCBerkeley, well, yes, you're around the college BOYS, but there are also professors, deans, Nobel Prize winners that are ALWAYS on that campus! There's not many work opportunities in Berkeley, but there are men, so it's a matter of digging them up!" So I stuck that in my MAN ATLAS file. Realized that I could report on:
LOS ANGELES ( & San Fernando VALLEY which is 20 miles north of L.A on the other side of the HOLLYWOOD HILLS which is the famed HOLLYWOOD SIGN! There is another valley behind LA's which is called THE BASIN!
I'd report this way: IF YOU HAVE a great car that gets good mileage, valley rents are 25% cheaper: BUT the COMMUTE is tedious, some report an hour due to congested freeways, so if TIME IS MONEY...LIVE IN L.A. Many men consider a valley girl G.U. (geographically undesireable!) My galpal rents a 3bdrm hse up the street, pays 3k. I rent four bdrms at 995$ but it's kind of not as kept up. Landlord very cheap. Lino and carpets/floors are dreadful. Heat only in living room.
BEST BUROUGHS: WEST L.A. as far north as the Pacific Palisades (guest houses galore) or Brentwood. Live as far EAST as WEST HOLLYWOOD, but not so far you're in HOLLYWOOD PROPER, that's too far EAST. Live in the beach town of SANTA MONICA, and south of that VENICE or MARINA DEL REY. CULVER CITY where rents are 1000 to 1500$ for a studio apartment.
Los Angeles, the JOB SITUATION: : WORST JOB. SHOW BIZ. These guys in agencies, studios, production companies daily meet the world's most superb beauties. They are immune to women. IN MY TOWN, girls of VOGUE MAGAZINE level beauty are MUD WRESTLING, lap dancing for work when they aren't trying out for flicks and they're desperate and these guys are spoiled rotton.
Best job here is LEGAL PROFESSION. You want to meet upscale CORPORATE lawyers and their bosses.....and get to the country club where family is, and meet their sons.... The way I FEEL is being a legal secretary. Takes a few hrs to learn, best way to start? AN OLD HAND experienced LEGAL SECRETARY gal pal who'd have you come in to her office at lunch hour...Sure you have to know PC's first, and DOS and WORD PERFECT and WORD....but then the forms.....knowing how to handle the forms. Very important.
ONCE in a law firm, you are always ENJOINED from dating partners. So you have to cruise the building daily, visit snack bars, ladies rooms outside your suite, other law firms, lunch with gals here and there in the mall below.
You didn't put in two months in LEGAL SECRETARY CLASS? Well, IN A WAY being a "PORTABLE FEAST" SANDWICH salesman might work just as well. Some princess in a fresh gingham frock with chopped real honeybaked HAM and green garlic olives in a celery/mayo sour cream filling might get FAMOUS REAL FAST! ODD BALL SANDWICH combos like eggsalad with olives, chopped jalapenos and a gingham apron might nail you a head of firm faster than MICROSOFT WORD!
NOW SANDWICH BIZ. My gal does it for FARMERS MARKET. AVERY LABELS (downloaded online,) pressure applied with sticky backs, with all ingred. are req'd. My galpal just opened HERITAGE KITCHENs in LA and works those farmers markets selling baked goods, jams.
THEN, TYCOONS IN L.A? I read palms at a party in Bel Air recently. Canadian tycoon's grandaughter who he left it all to. He's a TORONTO BROADCASTING magnate, newspapers and radio stations. Then a big publishing corporation, educational books. LEGAL books, textbooks. This reminded me that the top guy at a radio station or newspaper is very rich and ditto publishing. Those are firms you want to try. IN ANY CITY.
RENTAL COSTS: What does it cost to RENT HERE? Studio apartment 1500$ in L.A 1 bedroom 2000 though Pico Robertson area abutting BEV HILLS just went up to $1800.
FOOD COSTS: ORANGES 40c an lb. But they fall off trees in the entire city. I must get 50 lbs of fruit a week, apples, oranges, lemons, grapefruits. I brake for front yard trees or alley trees dripping fruit. Only take what fell on ground. FIGS, etc. PINEAPPLE GUAVAS, fejioa, lemon GUAVAS, bananas, all grow here. Drive the alleys daily! Spot trees. You'll have fruit platters piled high. We have major chain SUPER MARKETS and they're all very costly except for that week's SALE ITEMS. So after you buy the 'loss leaders,' shop the barrio markets, Hindu, Iranian, Arabian, Mexican or CHINESE markets! The VALLARTA market chain of the VALLEY one of the true greats! HOT TAMALES from the deli are $1.50, eat these monster tamales while you shop. Apples were 33c an lb on sale, now it's over. INFLATION HIT. 99c.. They used to have chicken 49c an lb (leg/thigh) on sale, now it's 79c when you find the sale. WHOLE CHICKENS on sale now AUG 08 69c lb that's rare.--papaya, the big mex ones, used to be 33c, on sale. now 70c. 3 dozen corn tortillas, yellow, organic, no cellulose or preservative chemicals,$1.50 (split pckg into three bags, freeze and enjoy one pck a week. 50c is my weekly tortilla bill!) BUT NOW it's $1.99 BIBLE BREAD is 3.49 at RALPHS a KROGER store.
NEW YORK is four times that on each item. My daughter lives in RIVERDALE, a 20 minute subway ride NORTH of MANHATTAN an old Jewish prewar ghetto or 'barrio'. Rent for a studio, there, 950$. I will ask her to Analyze rents, men / food costs/ industries in NYC. Then you do your town, huh? PUhleeze? Just send me some cuff notes.
