Hipster Ginsberg on road to nirvana
Poet Allen Ginsberg, "Howl," "Kaddish," died yesterday at his home New York. He was 70. Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac, William S. Burroughs, Neil Cassady, and Lawrence Ferlinghetti formed the core of a small group of writers known as the Beat Generation, a term Kerouac coined in 1948. "Howl," with its famous opening line, "I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked," revolutionized poetry and heralded a literary movement born of Eastern mysticism, bebop jazz, heroin and sexual freedom.
