Hi, and welcome to Storywerx. Glad you could drop by. Here you will find all the resources you need to become a much better writer, even a successful one, whether you're working on a novel, screenplay, short story or stage play. My names is J. Paul Peszko, and I've been involved with all facets of the media including writing, sales, and production for a number of years. (Bio & Credits) During this time I have found that workshops and writing conferences are fine for social interaction and networking. But when it comes to bumping up your writing to the next level, nothing does the trick like dilligent self-study. So, here are the resources and tools that I find to be the most useful. Many are free; some are relatively inexpensive. All are beneficial.

Internet Movie Database (Credits & Stats for 174,000+ flicks)
Wordplay (Simply put, this site gives away secrets. Professional secrets. From working screenwriter Terry Rossio and Ted Elliott: Shreck, Pirates of the Carribean and much more)
Script-O-Rama (Free Movie & TV Scripts)
Screen Talk Script Gallery (More Free Movie & TV Scripts)
iScriptdb.com (Still More Free Movie & TV Scripts)
Publishers Marketplace (A pay as you go site, but they have a free newsletter that updates writers of all kinds on fiction sales, non-fiction, books-to-film, and agents.)
Fiction Factor (The online magazine for fiction writers)
Mr. Showbiz (news, interviews, reviews)
Boxoffice: Films in the Works (Find Out What's Up)
ComingSoon.net (Film/TV news, Film database, also sci-fi, sports and games.)
Movies at Yahoo.com (Previews, Reviews, Show Times, and News)
MOOvees.com (Daily & Weekend Box Office, film reviews, links)
Cinema Confidential (News, gossip, trailers)
Writers Guild Agency List (A list of Guild-Signatories who will probably not read your query or return your phone call, but I've included it in case you just might get lucky)
Moviebytes.com (Writers' news, contests, conferences, job postings, bulletin board.)
The Largest Collection of Classic Movies on the Web (Pretty much just what it says.)

Novelists and Screenwriters: Why spend hundreds on books and workshops that lead you in cricles. Here are the ONLY books you'll ever need to get your writing on track and keep it there....

coverHe gives you a whole writer's "tool kit": a reading list, writing assignments, a corrected story, and nuts-and-bolts advice on dollars and cents, plot and character, the basic building block of the paragraph, and literary models. He shows what you can learn from H.P. Lovecraft's arcane vocabulary, Hemingway's leanness, Grisham's authenticity, Richard Dooling's artful obscenity, Jonathan Kellerman's sentence fragments. He explains why Hart's War is a great story marred by a tin ear for dialogue, and how Elmore Leonard's Be Cool could be the antidote.
" King isn't just a writer, he's a true teacher". --Tim Appelo

On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft

cover Find out what is truly meant by 'character-driven.' With a warm and conversational tone, Noah Lukeman offers writers innovative principles, techniques, and numerous thought-provoking exercises. His frequent references to book, film, and TV classics make for a lively and accessible read. John Truby, Truby's Writer's Studio "Lukeman keeps laser-like focus on the single most important principle of good writing: creating plot through the characters."
James Frey, author of How to Write a Damn Good Novel and The Key "[Lukeman] shows writers how to build stories in which the plot emerges from fresh, alive, and intense characters."
