ACE SPECTRUM |
Ace
Spectrum had two albums. LOST SESSION SONGS: Don't Send
Nobody Else, Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight (InnerSpectrum Album); |
|
|
ASHFORD & SIMPSON |
Arguably
the best song writing duo in history! |
|
|
ATLANTIC STAR |
The year
was 1978 in Walnut, California. I remember the New Band performing in the
student center at Mount San Antonio Jr., College. Later the New Band
became Atlantic Star. |
|
|
AUSTIN, PATTI |
One of the
best session singers ever. However, Patti has many good songs and albums
of her own. Catch her on Yutaka's Lovelight, Lovelight is a Lostsession
masterpiece. LOST SESSION SONGS: Lovelight on Yutaka's
album. |

Anita's

|
BLOODSTONE |
The I need
time album is a lost session sleeper. Mostly known for outside woman and
natural high, but they have many, many more good songs. |
|
|
BLUE MAGIC |
Blue Magic
is simply the best in R & B music! The first time I saw Blue Magic was
in 1976 at the Forum in Los Angeles. They performed with Tavares and Al
Green. Everything about Blue Magic is awesome, their stage presence, their
outfits, the songs, the choreography, the singing. Blue Magic's best work
came on the Atlantic/Atco label WMOT, which they shared with Major Harris
and Margie Joseph. I co-promoted a concert 4/27/01 here in Los Angeles,
CA, starring Blue Magic. When I say they were the best then, I say now,
they are still the best and showing no sign of slowing down! Eventhough
they have had much success in their career, they are humble and pure
gentlemen. It was a pleasure hosting them!! |
|
|
BLUE MAGIC |
The former
lead singer of Blue Magic now has a solo career. |

|
BROTHERS JOHNSON |
Smooth,
Funky and pure soul. That is how I would describe the 1974 hit: I'll be
good to you, the best song the Brothers ever did. They never topped that
song. |
|
|
BROWN, JAMES |
The
Godfather of soul needs no help! |
|
|
BRYSON, PEABO |
When most
people think of the best male singer today, they think of Luther. I think
of Peabo Bryson. Before Feel the fire, Peabo had an album entitled: Peabo
Bryson, some of the songs were: Just a matter of time; God is on my side;
that album is truly a lost session piece of work. |
|
|
BUTLER, JERRY |
A member of
the Impressions: 1957/58. Nicknamed "The Iceman." Best known for
Hey Western Union man and Never give you up. In the year 2001, Jerry
Butler is still going strong. |
|
|
CALDWELL, BOBBY |
Bobby
Caldwell came on the scene with What you won't do, but he has many hits!
His Soul Survivor cd, that is a winner! |
|
|
CAMEO |
Cameo had a
very good run during the late '70's throughout the '80's, that was the era
of bands when band members, sang, danced and played. |
|
|
CARN, JEAN |
Jean never
got enough credit. |
|
|
CHANGE |
Luther was
here! |
|
|
CHAPTER 8 |
Chapter 8
is where Anita Baker started her career. Chapter 8 is a pretty smooth
sounding group without a lot of exposure. |
|
|
CHI-LITES |
Marshall is
still going strong, in fact, they are in Los Angeles tonight! 6/2/01. |
|

COLE, NATALIE |
The
daughter of the Nat King Cole. Natalie has a strong, strong voice. She had
a down period in her life but she is back and she is as strong as ever. |
|
|
COLLAGE |
Collage is
the back up band for the mighty Whispers, but they had two good albums. LOST
SESSION SONGS: Step Right Up (Shine The Light Album); Get In
Touch, Simple (Get In Touch Album); |
|
|
COMMODORES |
The
Commodores had at least 8 great albums in the early 80's, the Commodores
have stayed together in spite of Lionel Richie leaving for a solo career,
but they haven't come close to the run they had with Richie. |
|
|
CON-FUNK-SHUN |
Every great
band and singing group has two lead singers and ConFunkShun is right there
with the best of them: Michael Cooper and Felton Pilate lead an allstar
funk band from Northern California. |
|
|
CONNERS, NORMAN |
What does
Jean Carn, Michael Henderson, Phyllis Hyman, Eleanor Mills and many others
have in common? They have all recorded great music under the production of
Norman Conners. |
|
|
DAZZ BAND |
Funk and
soul band out of Ohio. They sing dance and play and yes, they can sing
too. |
|
|
DELFONICS |
William
Hart, Wilbert Hart, Randy Cain and Major Harris. In 1990, the legendary
Delfonics had a reunion concert at the Strand in Los Angeles. Yes, all
four. What a fabulous show! The Delfonics were the best of the best. Their
songs had the most beautiful arrangements complete with horns and strings
with the silky voice of William Hart. |
|
|
DELLS |
The Dells
are a rare group in that their nucleus has stayed together for 40+ years! |
|
|
DRAMATICS |
The Devil
is Dope album is their best work; however, the Dramatics have been |
|
|
DYNAMIC SUPERIORS |
The best
group nobody ever heard of! I saw the Dynamic Superiors in 1977 at the
Shrine auditorium in Los Angeles. They put on a fantastic show, but I
never heard from them again. Their most popular song is shoe, shoe shine.
The Pure Pleasure album is a sleeper. |
|
|
EARTH, WIND & FIRE |
Earth, Wind
& Fire is the greatest band of our era! Just about everybody knows
this, but my question is: where are all the members? Larry Dunn, Al Mckay,
Maurice White, etc. |
|
|
EMOTIONS |
Wonder
vocal group from Chicago, the Hutchinson sisters. They had their best run
when they hooked up with EWF. |
|
|
ENCHANMENT |
Five member
singing group out of Detroit. They put on a good show and had a good run,
but vanished. |
|
|
FAT LARRY'S BAND |
If you saw
Larry James you would never think he was a drummer. Larry James was short
and fat. Fat Larry's Band had a few disco hits, but Fat Larry's Band was
originally "The Magic of the Blue", Blue Magic's backup band. |
|
|
FIVE SPECIAL |
The second
best group nobody ever heard of. The lead singer is the younger brother of
Ron Banks of the Dramatics. The Five Special got some radio play with Why
leave us alone, but they had several more nice songs. |
|
|
FOUR TOPS |
A round of
applause should be given to the Tops for their 40+ years in showbusiness.
And, they have done it with the same four guys. One of the Tops passed
away, but they have continued to perform and Levi's voice hasn't lost a
thing. |

FRANKLIN, ARETHA |
The Queen
of Soul. Need I need to say more? |

a matter of opinion, but the album speaks for itself. |

GAP BAND |
The Gap
Band puts on one of the best live shows. |

|
GIBSON, JON |
He sounds
like Stevie Wonder, but has a style of his own. Jon sang lead on the Bill
Wolfer song "Wake Up" which is a good Lostsession song. Jon is
still recording and his latest recording is entitled: The Man Inside |

|
GQ |
Disco group

Larry
Graham, the funk bassit from Oakland, CA. Was a member of Sly and the
Family Stone from 1966-1972. |

GREEN, AL |
Al needs no
introduction. Al wrote most of his songs. Al is a songwriter and guitar
player. Al started out in gospel music, after his great run with R&B,
he has since returned to gospel music. |
|
|
HARRIS, MAJOR |
This former
Delfonic is as smooth as they come. Major Harris has ice in his veins. The
Major sang the original version of Love won't let me wait. Major's best
work came when he was on the Atlantic/Atco WMOT label that was shared with
Margie Joseph and Blue Magic. The WMOT trio toured in the late 70's. |

|
JAMES, RICK |
Ever since
Rick James came on the scene back in '78, I've thought of him as the
"new" Sly Stone. In my opinion, Rick James has lived up to that
in every way. His music and style revolutionized Punk-Funk. |
|

JONES GIRLS |
Former
session group that never got their just due. When I want to hear a female
singing group, I reach for my Jones Girls cds. |

Kool

they have done this is a very quiet way, and I don't know why. Kool
and the Gang are as good as any band ever has been. |

KRYSTOL |
Tina,
Roberta & Karen are my home girls from Pomona, CA! Krystol was
under the direction of Leon Sylvers and had a couple of pretty good
albums. |

LABELLE, PATTI |
Is it
possible to give more than 100%? If so, Patti does it every time she hits
the stage. |
|
|
LAKESIDE |
Versatile
and Explosive! Do you like funk, guitars, dancing, good singing and
excitement? If you do, Lakeside is the answer. Dick Griffey once called
them the Baddest Band in the Land. Best known for Fantastic Voyage and
It's all the way live, however, Lakeside has much, much more to offer. |

LAWS, DEBRA |

sister of Eloise, Ronnie and Hubert Laws. Her debut album was awesome.
Debra vanished during the 80's and 90's, but she is back. |

RAY, GOODMAN & BROWN |
Too bad
Harry Ray passed away, Harry Ray's falsetto was one of the best in the
business. Billy can bring it too. These guys have so many beautiful songs
as the Moments and RGB. |

REDDINGS |
They had
two albums and then disappeared? |
|
|
RICHIE, LIONEL |
Former
member of the Commodores. Lionel has enjoyed enormous success as a solo
artist. I think he left some of his soul when he left the Commodores. |
|
|
RIPERTON, MINNIE |
Minnie like
so many others died before her time. One of Minnie's career goals was to
sing a duet with Peabo Bryson. They never got to sing it at the same time,
but they do have a duet. Peabo recorded his portion after Minnie passed
away, the song: "Here we go." One of my favorites! |
|

ROBBINS, ROCKIE |
Three
albums then he vanished. |

groups. |

|
VANDROSS, LUTHER |
Luther is a
master at taking a classic song and recording it. And for the most part he
has done a good job, but some songs should not to be re-recorded. Love
won't let me wait and Always and Forever are two songs that Luther should
have left alone. The first time I saw Luther he was singing background
with Roberta Flack. I remember telling my friend that night: "Do you
see the fat guy singing back-up?" "He's the best singer I have
heard tonight." It turned out to be Luther Vandross! |
