a place

a place to lie down
fall down
into a patch awakening
acres of laughter
beneath grass meadows
discovering a new rock
another freckle
sleepwalking together
feet to feet
with enough wax on our wings
to sail through daphne
and still be happy
longer than the life span
of a moth this time
harder than bone
for the nose against grindstone
I won't mind staring at you
even when it's just you
and that one pepper tree
where the world once was
