Kit #68 - SALMON AND P-CLASS SUBS

The P-Class subs were the first of the fleet subs and the first to have all welded construction and air-conditioning. The P-Class were also faster than previous subs.. Some members of the class had two external bow-mounted torpedo tubes added for additional firepower. Throughout the war, modifications were made to the subs systems, radar, armament and sonar. The conning tower was also cut down during the war and 20mm platforms added.

The Salmon Class was constructed as an improvement over the P-Class. Subsequently, the Sargo Class, which was externally almost identical to the Salmons, was a further improvement. Longer in length, and with a greater displacement,, the Salmon Class was one knot faster then the P-Class.
