Iraq Picture Of The Day

On Guard

Staff Sergeant Promotable (SSG(P)) Rob Dirk pulls guard as fellow soldiers interact with some of the locals. The intelligence section personnel accompanied by a big security force went around recording all of the individuals living near our base. Fortunately, we are in a remote location so there are not a lot of people to record. We still made a lot of good contacts though. See 4 SEP picture for other details. 11/9/03

There Was Ground Cover

When we first arrived at our forward operating base, there was actually a lot of ground vegetation. Seven months of walking across it, driving on it, and dragging a hose across it (we fill the shower and swamp cooler reservoirs from a huge water blivet using a fire hose) has made the ground void of all vegetation, as you will see tomorrow. Also in the picture is a soldier pulling human waste burning detail. To get rid of it, we burn it. 11/10/03

And Then There Was None

It is pretty amazing the effect that walking and dragging things across the vegetation had on it. The only place where anything grows is near a constant water source like underneath leaking swamp coolers, hoses, and the shower run-off trench. 11/11/03
