Trout Mask Replica by Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band (1969). Captain Beefheart has many smart and devoted fans, including Frank Zappa (who produced this album). The tracks on this collection try one’s patience, but remain interesting and often very funny. Occasional references to the LA of the late 1960s not only date this album, but make me wonder if it is less interesting to people who aren’t familiar with LA. I listen to this album occasionally, but sometimes regret it.
