Articulated coaches have two sections joined in the middle.  These coaches are designed to cater to high peak-hour passenger loads with greater efficiency than standard 40 foot bus.  These coaches are 60 feet long and could carry 73 seated passengers.

Santa Clara County Transit estimated that operating costs may be reduced as much as 30%. County Transit operated MAN(2401-15) and IKARUS(2501-15) articulated coaches on Line 22 from 1983/4 till about 1988.  VTA had more problems with the IKARUS, which were not assigned to Line 22, but Lines 26, 66, 68 or 71 and former express routes 142 and 144, which are now Limited Stops 304 and 305.

In 1988, Santa Clara County Transit leased 15 Crown/Ikarus and 15 MAN articulated coaches to AC Transit.

AC Transit renumbered the MANS 1630-1644 and Crown/Ikarus to 1700-1714.

All coaches were withdrawn from service 1997.
