On Friday September 3rd, Kevin Newnan will be opening for comic legend DAVID BRENNER at the L.A. Cabaret in Encino, California. Showtime is 8:00 PM - call (818) 501-3737 for ticket information. Advanced reservations are recommended as the show will sell out.
NOTE TO 'WICKED PISSAH' READERS: It was great meeting some of you at my Boston appearance in July. If you are planning to attend the David Brenner show this Friday, I will put you on my personal guest list, which will entitle you to free admission. You will still be subject to the standard two-drink minimum, but if you read this site, I am sure you have every intention of knocking back at least two. Just send me an emailwith the names of the people in your party, and I'll put you on the list.
After five drunken
years at UMass (two of which were spent serving on the University's Board
of Trustees - no joke), Newnan high-tailed it for warmer weather in Los
Angeles. His early forays into the L.A. Comedy Circuit included First
Prize in Paramount Studios' Stand-up Showdown and club appearances
at such well-known venues as The Improv. He appeared as a
Featured Guest on the nationally-broadcast Cable Radio Network, and appeared
as a live in-studio guest alongside the legendary Budd Friedman (owner
of the Improv, best-known as the monocle-wearing host of A&E's Evening
at the Improv) on the syndicated "Mr. KFI Show" (KFI-FM Los Angeles),
taking phone calls from listeners in thirteen western states.
Newnan's comedy career took a brief hiatus as he focussed on grown-up things for a while. Although he continued writing, performing comedy took a back seat to getting married, buying a house, and adopting a dog. Now that he's settled into a life of wedded bliss and property taxes, he is returning to the stage with his unique and irreverent brand of comedy.
A native of Malden,
Massacusetts, Newnan analyzes modern society from the cynical political
perspective that only a Guinness-swilling Bostonian could posess.
His humor balances a jaded street-wise attitude with critical social thought,
bringing a completely fresh take to everything from everyday life to complex
philosophical and political concepts. During his set, Newnan looks
at the absurdity of modern life in the context of the series of blunders
known as "human history", weaving them together in a way that entertains
audiences and leaves them with only slightly less respect for themselves
and for mankind.
Newnan recognizes that he isn't fooling anybody by writing this biography in the third person. While he regrets posting such self-congratulatory dribble on the Internet, he hopes that visitors to this site realize that it is a necessary evil in this business. He hopes to someday have a publicist who will author these psuedo-press releases on his behalf.
