Between Sun & Moon Reviews

Tribal Ambient Bliss:

The gentle songs found on this splendid compilation provide the perfect harmony between ambient backgrounds, tempered tribal percussion, and earthy sounds. Between Sun & Moon contains nine tracks taken from existing and forthcoming release on the Italian ambient label, Amplexus. The opening track, Dark Horizon by Loren Nerell, is the highlight of this collection with its mystical female vocal cries and an enchanting dark atmosphere highlighted by sparse percussive sounds. The next rack, Kabbala by Solitaire, continues in the same vein, but with a more upbeat tribal percussion and an uplifting undercurrent of sound. A female voice opens the song with a beautiful wail and then appears briefly, leaving the listener wanting more. Other artists featured include Amir Baghiri with his Australian aborigine sounds on Last Heat, Mathias Grassow's bright synth melodies of Invocation, and Rod Modell's dark and soothing Cool Watery Depths. Some of the tracks hold my attention more than others, but Between Sun & Moon aptly shows the individuality of the different artists while blending the songs with each other enough to make it a cohesive collection. - Octavia
