After earning degrees in both University Studies and in Natural Sciences from Skyline College, I attended the University of California, Davis where, in 2007, I graduated with a degree in Evolution, Ecology, and Biodiversity and a minor in Studio Art. Sine then, I have been continuing my professional development in education and museum studies through San Francisco State University.

At first glance, my studies may seem an eclectic mix of art, science, museum, and education training. This somewhat unconventional path is, however, quite intentional. My interest is in integrating these fields as an educator - not only in the use of science to create art, but also in the use of art as an entry point to make scientific concepts more accessible to the learner.

San Franciso State University

After graduating from UC Davis, I decided to continue my professional development at SF State, taking additional courses in museum operations and education.

Topics I have studied include:
----Museum Exhibit Design and Curation
----Visitor Studies and Audience Development
----History and Organization of Museums
----Information Technology in Museums
----Museum Education and Schools Outreach
----Volunteer Management and Membership
----Fine Arts Gallery Exhibition Design
----Teaching Art for Leisure and Therapy
----Art Education for Children

University of California, Davis

While at UC Davis, I had the opportunity to take Graduate and Professional courses in addition to typical undergraduate classes. My extra studies included Museum Training in Curatorial Principals and Exhibition Methods, Contemporary Leadership in Science and Society, and Science Education Outreach, as well as some time spent in Ireland to study environmental literature, ornithology, and bog ecology.

I also had the good fortune to work on independent research projects with some wonderful faculty in Herpetology and Experimental Ecology and Evoltion in the Field, a collaboration which resulted in co-authorship on a publication in the journal of the Ecological Society of America as well as a research poster presentation at ESA's national meeting.

Skyline College

Through Skyline and the Marine Mammal Center, I had the chance to participate in independent research in Marine Biology. This resulted in my presenting research at two national conferences. It was a wonderful experience, and inspiration for my continuing studies in nature and ecology.
