Kananaskis Research Station

Strategies for Ecology Education Development & Sustainability (ESA-SEEDS)

Week long trip to University of Calgary and Kananaskis research station. Topics covered during outings included local wildlife & habitat preservation; tertiary water treatment; forest fire ecology; electric fishing for samples; glacier formation & environmental impact; bat ecology; Native American environmental relations and traditional conservation methods.

 

Columbia River Gorge

Ecological Society of America (ESA)

Field trip to Colombia River Gorge to observe beginning construction of a traditional Native American dwelling on an historic site and learn about the changes to the region since the time of Lewis and Clark’s first visit.

 

Mer Blue Bog

Ecological Society of America (ESA)

Field trip to Mer Bleue Bog to observe ecology and biogeochemisty research currently being conducted on this ecosystem, with an emphasis on peatland evolution, hydrology, and gas exchange experiments.

 

Ireland: Dublin, Dingle, Galway, County Mayo

University of California, Davis - Nature and Culture Dept.

Month long trip to Ireland to study Irish environmental literature, ornithology, and bog botany.
