NOTES
(Mom/Dad, please read!)

1) PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THE SOUND FILES ARE FOR USE IN DEVELOPING PRECISE RHYTHM AND INTONATION AFTER THE STUDENT HAS LEARNED (OR REVIEWED) WELL THE PIECES BY READING THEM. THEY ARE NOT FOR USE IN LEARNING OR REVIEWING PIECES BY EAR!

2)  Each MIDI (sound) file includes a steady beat along with the music, with the first beat of each measure accentuated. Except where it is otherwise noted, one empty measure is provided for count-in at the beginning. Pieces beginning on beats other than the first beat, or downbeat, have from one to five additional empty beats following the count-in measure. For example, if a piece begins on the fourth beat of a four-beat measure, there is a four-beat count-in plus three additional empty beats before the music starts. A piece beginning on the sixth beat of a six-beat measure has a six-beat count-in plus five additional beats before the music starts.

3) I hold copyrights on pieces marked *.  If you are a member of the Lovett String Program, you have permission to make ONE (1) and only ONE (1) copy (tape, CD, or computer disk) of the sound file for each part that you play so that you will not need to log onto this site every time you practice. If you make copies of sound files, you should also copy the tunings and then tune from those recorded tunings whenever you work with the copies of the files. Authorized single copies of files are for your use only and are not for further distribution. DO NOT MAKE COPIES OF ANY FILE FOR WHICH YOU DO NOT PLAY A PART! For example, if you are a beginning violinist, you may listen to the file for the Concert First Violin part, but you may not make a copy of it. If you are not a member of the Lovett String Program, you may listen to any file online, but you must not make a copy of it if there is an indication ( * ) that it is copyrighted.

4) In order to make certain that you always download the most recently updated version of this page, you should set your browser to check for the latest version every time you go to it. To do that in Internet Explorer, go to Tools - Internet Options. Under "General" / "Temporary Internet files," activate the button that makes the browser check for revisions every time you visit a given page, then back out of the procedure by clicking on "OK" until all windows close. I have found that this is the best way to be sure that pages I go to repeatedly are the latest ones available. If the browser is not set in this fashion, it will store a given version on your hard drive for a specified period of time and pull it up rather than pulling it from the website until the time period expires, at which time it will then go to the website, download whatever version then is there, and store it on your hard drive. While that way is slightly faster, it is not practical if you are dealing with pages that are subject to frequent change, such as this one.

5) PLEASE LOG OUT WHENEVER YOU FINISH USING THIS SITE. That helps me track the use of this page. Click on the LOG OUT link at the bottom of the page. If your e-mail is set up with your server, an e-mail window should appear. Enter your name in the subject header, leave the message field blank, and click on "Send."  PLEASE DO NOT INCLUDE A MESSAGE WITH YOUR LOG-OUT. To e-mail questions or comments, please click on the separate E-MAIL LINK that follows the LOG OUT link, enter your message, and click on "Send." If you do not log out properly, you will not receive credit for using the site.

Beginning Orchestra:  PENDING

Intermediate Orchestra:  PENDING

Concert Orchestra: PENDING

ALL GROUPS:  Basic scales (those of the keys in which we most often play) are at this site permanently. Whenever you are working on a piece in one of those keys, you should include the appropriate scale in your warm-ups.

Scales:

NOTE: Each scale covers the basic octave and uses half notes in a fairly fast 4/4. They may be played as they sound or with different rhythms against the sounding steady half notes.  Concert Orchestra members are responsible for ALL the scales. Those who finished the 2003-2004 school year in Preparatory Orchestra (Junior or Senior) are responsible for the major scales and the PURE minor scales throughout the fall semester and also must be able to play the harmonic minor scales by or before the end of the spring semester.
