Genealogy

It's spelled genealogy, not geneology.

Relationship Chart

Ever wonder what fourth cousin three times removed means? A relationship chart can be found here.

LDS and FHC

LDS refers to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They have accumulated a tremendous amount of genealogical information from around the world. Each church member is encouraged to submit their own genealogies.

Most of the information is held on microfilm, and some of it is on CD-ROM. They have thousands of reels available for lending to the various local Family History Centers (FHC).

So how can you access the information? Click on http://www.familysearch.org/. Look for the link that says "Find a family history center near you" and click on it.

Most local FHC offices are probably closed on Sunday and Monday. You don't have to be a church member and it's free. Each FHC can request copies of the microfiche reels to be sent from Salt Lake City (there's a nominal fee for this service).

The FHC may also have a PC you can use to access their CD-ROMs (like the IGI - International Genealogical Index, and others).
