WOMAN DIES
 IN FIRE HERE
  EARLY TODAY
Susan R. Strong, wife of Solomon S. Strong, 282 East Fifth avenue, was burned to death at 6:00 o'clock this morning when flames from an open gas heater caught her clothing as she fell in front of the heater. The fire was discovered by Motorman H. E. Truitt of the Pacific Electric Railway. He turned in the alarm and the fire department estinguished the flames before much property damage was done. Mrs. Strong was dead, however, when the firemen arrived.
The exact cause of the fire is something of a mystery but it is certain that there was nothing criminal about it. Mr. Strong had just left the house to go to work, leaving Mrs. Strong sitting before the heater. She is known to have been suffering from locomotive ataxia. Whether she fell in attempting to rise or because of a paralytic stroke, is not known. When Motorman Truitt saw the flames he turned in the alarm and rushed into the house to find that Mrs. Strong's clothing was already practically all burned off and the flames were spreading to the floor and walls.
The fire department extinguished the flames without difficulty, Chief Shewman first turning off the gas from the heater. The Chief expressed it as his opinion that Mrs. Strong had fallen in front of the heater and that a sudden increase in pressure had shot the flame out sufficently to ignite her clothing. Dr. W. H. Eaton was called and a call was put in for the ambulance. Dr. Eaton found the Mrs. Strong was already dead, whether from burns, suffocation, or the effects of a stoke he could not say. The Todd Undertaking Company took charge of the body and communicated the facts to the Coroner who stated that no inquest would be held.
Mrs. Strong a woman about eighty years of age,was a native of Missouri. She was a member of the Baptist church here and had been a resident of Pomona for about thirty-five years. She was one of the real pioneers of this valley. Funeral services will probably be held at the Todd Chapel on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. J. Harvey Deere, pastor of the First Baptist church, will officiate and interment will be in the Pomona Cemetery.

MRS SUSAN STRONG BURNED
            TO DEATH IN CALIFORNIA

Mrs. Susan R. Strong, wife of Solo-
mon R. Strong, was burned to death
at her home in Pomona, Calif., last
week. She was a sister of the late

old and was almost helpless on ac-
count of partial paralysis. Her cloth-
ing caught fire from an open gas

the fire was discovered. She was dead
when the firemen arrived. Mrs.
Strong's only near relative living in
Missouri is Mrs. W. R. DeGroff of
Joplin who is a sister. The Baynham
family was among the pioneers of this
